An environmental uplift?

I note with some bemusement that Marks & Spencer, a British retailer, has introduced a range of "carbon-neutral lingerie". Their Web site claims:

Every piece in the beautiful Leaves lingerie range is carbon neutral and helps support the reforestation of the Sri Lankan rainforest.

As part of our Plan A commitment to tackling climate change, we've pioneered the world's first carbon neutral lingerie manufacturing plant in Sri Lanka which produces 30% fewer carbon emissions. The remaining footprint from the range is offset by investment in local rainforest replanting projects.

The range's eco credentials aren't its only appeal. Soozie Jenkinson, head of lingerie design, explains: "The new range is sophisticated, elegant and glamorous. We've used a combination of intricate lace and dramatic embroidery, inspired by the exotic foliage of the rainforest."

Uh-huh. If you say so . . . but my memories of the rainforest are that it stinks of rotting vegetation (and other, less salubrious substances), and the "exotic foliage" tends to try to wrap itself around you at every step! (Also, the inhabitants of that "exotic foliage" tend to bite, sting or otherwise prey on the unwary passer-by at every possible opportunity!) This doesn't bode well for lingerie inspired by such nastiness . . .

How soon the eco-nut jobs forget that they were, not too long ago, blaming trees for depositing carbon dioxide into the amosphere and thus causing pollution.

Now Peter... You 'know' you can't bad mouth those left wing loonies... or tell the truth about rainforests either! :-)
