A master musician at work

Thanks to reader E. S. for sending me the link to this video clip of Eric Johnson playing what many consider to be his instrumental masterpiece, 'Cliffs Of Dover'.  This recording is from a live concert in 1988.

Aahhhhh . . . music to our ears, indeed!

I love the song, but this particular version I consider to be one of the worst recordings of it. Mr. Johnson seems out of time even with himself, and certainly the band doesn't quite seem able to keep up with him and the dissonance just ruins it for me. I much prefer this one

In which his band is able to keep time with him much better.

Thank you for reminding me of this. Graduated HS in 1989, so this was from my time and I loved it. Haven't heard it in years. Thank you.

I love Eric, but have you heard this version of Joe's Ice-9?
